If fate decided to pay a prank, it chose this middle class Bhatnagar family to do so. Where else would one find a cheeky servant, a flustered son, a forgetful wife, a rouge pandit and a confused bunch of friends to come together – all because of a missing father ?
“Daddy in Doubt”- is an adaptation of the Hindi Play “Baap re Baap” written by KP Saxena. A laughter riot that has potent mix of wit, confused identity and comic situations leaves the audience in splits throughout.
Noor, the quintessential Lucknowi household help, plays a peacemaker between Meenu and Vikas while safeguarding the family interests against conspiring aspirants for the promised reward for finding the missing father. Meenu, is an aspiring socialite who would rather spend her time partying with friends, is forced to play the concerned daughter -in -law seeing her husband worry about his missing father. The story twists and turns with mistaken identities and raging emotions in the Bhatnagar family. Where then is the mysterious Bhatnagar senior in all of this? Has he really run away or is their any truth in the vicious rumours doing the rounds? The mysterious return of the prodigal father is what this play is all about!
The play is a must watch not just because it tis rib tickling but also because it brings to the fore simple social values and ethos of a time where trust, friendship and love were the foundation of any household. The play subtly highlights the harmony between family members and friends irrespective of social and religious backgrounds. Today when we live in times where religious bigotry is a norm, the play is a refreshing change to watch. if one reflects beyond the obvious fun and humour, one can see the sensitivity of portrayal underneath. The play is a reflection of a society that thrives on gossip, where hypocrisy has become the norm, where predators wait in corners to take advantage of the unsuspecting and where friendships save the day.
Without doubt the play will give the audience its laughter moments at the same time sharing the message love and hope.
